Miniature garden for the refrigerator door

Create a miniature garden for your refrigerator door with corks and a few cube magnets!

Required materials

For the mini-garden you will need:
  • Cube magnets 5 x 5 mm
  • Corks
  • Scalpel
  • Scissors
  • Soil
  • Plant cuttings which require little water (see below)

Cut planting hole

The cork has to be hollowed out to about halfway. To do this, use a scalpel to cut a circle into the top of the cork. Leave a rim of about 2 to 3 mm to avoid breaking the cork. Next, stick a pair of scissors into the inner circle and turn it until the cut piece detaches from the cork and you are left with a hole.

Insert magnet

Now cut a small square piece for the magnet out of the cork’s lower third. Don’t cut the hole too big, the magnet needs to fit snuggly. Put a little glue (e.g. UHU MAX REPAIR) in the hole to securely anchor the magnet.

Plant the cuttings

Lastly, fill the corks with soil and plant the cuttings. Done! Because the little bit of soil in the corks dries out quickly, it is best to use plants that don’t need a lot of water.

For everyone who doesn’t have a suitable surface for attaching these decorative cork magnets magnetic bars or magnetic boards are a great solution.
